Tomorrow we leave for APE in San Francisco and Saturday begins the festivities. Please stop by table 265 and say "Hello". As I've mentioned before we will have the first printing of Issue 1 (this story) in it's original black and white format for sale as well as our other projects like LD30, New Breed, (published by 01 Publishing) and copies of Titanium Rain published by Archaia. We'll have other things as well, so please stop by. We'll have a fighter jet on the top of our banner so you can't miss us.
And now for commentary on this page. This one was always supposed to be in color. When it was first published we bemoaned the fact that we couldn't use color to show the many moods of the utopiates. The black and white was always good for conveying the overall noir but the color really helps to give the sense of of the personalities and what they do to the Junky.Needless to say we're very happy with the results.
Day 5, page 5.
Last day of the everyday post. Next post will be made on schedule on Tuesday.
This scene was very interesting to create. As you may or may not know, we use models to help give our artwork the subtle emotions needed to convey the scenes properly. When the model for the junkie was posing for this scene, we were outside of a residential house and a mother with her small children happened to walk by. We had to explain to her that the young man was not committing suicide and that the gun was fake. She believed us, but hurried her children away as if we had the plague.

As I’ve mentioned before, Back in 2006 Utopiates was originally published in black and white. We did it this way because black and white was cheaper and putting out a black and white comic was the only way to get published back then. Well, happily things have changed and we have come a long way since then. So I wanted to share with you now, on this update, what this page originally looked like when it was first produced.
Here you can see just how much we improved the book. Black and white is a wonderful medium, but for this story we really needed the depth that color can bring.

Day 3 of our big release of Utopiates. Just two more days to go, then we update every Tuesday and Thursday.
I do have to say that Josh and I are very happy to be seeing this comic released in color. This was the way it was always meant to be. When we first started out, Black and white was the only way to get your foot in the door in the comics industry. But now, with digital and web comics, creators and put out their books any way they wish. This is a wonderful time.
